Vauxhall Corsa
Vauxhall Corsas are commonly used around the UK by driving instructors and also make a good first time car. They are compact yet well specced and are known for their reliability. They also attract a good resale value so you know that your money is not wasted.
The Vauxhall Corsa was the successor the the Nova which proved popular among learner and new drivers alike. The small compact car was often used as a training vehicle and meant that the transition into real world driving was greatly eased by the familiar surroundings.
The Corsa when it was introduced was a big hit. Quite often they came with free insurance for a couple of years, which helped reduce the cost of getting into motoring at a young age. For those people still after a bit of a thrill they also came with the 1.6 engine, which in such a small light car proved to be a good combination.
Later models gained suspension tweaks from the excellent Lotus motor racing company. There were quite a few variations for the international markets, but in the UK the Corsa was generally only sold in the standard hatchback version.
With options such as power steering, air-conditioning and dual airbags, the level of equipment on such a compact car was impressive. Also with a variety of newer turbo diesel engines they also became very economic cars to drive. As with a lot of manufacturers there is a "hot hatch" version, which is the GSi for earlier models, and from early 2007 the VXR which has a 1.6 turbo engine driving the front wheels with around 190 BHP, which in such a small car will definitely prove to be fun.
